On November 27, we had the most meaningful visit at Helen Devos Children's Hospital. It's these moments that remind us that it is about so much more than a book ...
We were asked to join Ruff Readers with Teacher Katie & Geoff with Blue Glass Studios. They film a live show every 2 weeks that is projected into the patient's rooms. Prior to our visit, we dropped off a box of books so the book and a bag of craft supplies could be delivered to each child's room.
First, Aggie & Heidi from West Michigan Therapy Dogs introduced themselves, answered a few questions and then they left to go visit the kids on the floors. Then I read "Tasha Goes to Puppy School". After that, we played a quiz game called Kahoot. Katie had loaded in some questions and answers about "Tasha" and Thanksgiving.
Then we did a fun craft where the kids had to disguise their turkey so it wouldn't be eaten for Thanksgiving. Katie showed a few examples and then we used the pencils, markers and other supplies to disguise our turkey. Katie's was a Pokemon. Mine was a fluffy chicken with glasses and a wig.
What a wonderful experience!
